Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)

Sound healing has existed for millennia across cultures. Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a particular type of sound healing. It uses filtered music to help reset our Autonomic Nervous System (ANS).  The ANS acts as a surveillance system asking “am I safe?” and finding ways to either find safety and/or to survive. Some of the mechanisms that were used for survival can “get stuck” in defense mode, carrying over into the present even when other strategies might be more useful now. As we release what has been stuck in our system from the past, we expand our possibilities.

Dr. Steven Porges developed a model of the Autonomic Nervous System, called Polyvagal Theory. Safe and Sound Protocol is an application of Polyvagal Theory. It uses filtered music to access our Autonomic Nervous System. It delivers music in frequencies that our system connects with safety. In that way, it helps reset our system for the possibility of healthier connections with ourselves, each other and the world. As our system has more access to the possibility of safety and ease in the present, it also has more access to joy, creativity, rest, our authentic self and authentic relationships. It helps us deepen our sense of connection and belonging (including belonging in the interconnections of life and on Earth).

My approach to the Safe and Sound Protocol combines my own skills and gifts in Somatic Experiencing, Interpersonal Neurobiology and Energy Healing along with a unique application of the SSP called Transformative Harmonics. Developed by Paula Scatoloni, this approach to the SSP integrates interpersonal neurobiology, traumatology, and sensory processing to support you in accessing and healing aspects of the core self that are outside of conscious awareness. I facilitate a psychoacoustic journey during the sound healing sessions to support you in accessing, healing, and integrating unconscious processes that are held in the individual, ancestral, and collective field. The Safe and Sound Protocol consists of 5 hours of filtered music. The maximum “dose” of listening is 30 minutes per session (the amount of listening per session depends on each person’s system). I am honored to help you process and integrate the Safe and Sound Protocol experience by combining my gifts that work with the multiple systems of defense/protection, attachment,  sensory processing, and subtle energy to enhance your experience of embodiment and support you in accessing your own innate power and wisdom.
